Uttar Pradesh Flood Situation |

September 17, 2007 The recent Floods following incessant monsoon rains have wrecked havoc in several parts of Uttar Pradesh. 788 villages and 5 districts in the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh were severely affected with the overflowing of the rivers Ghaghra, Rapti, Gandak, Saryu and Sarda.
Balrampur district is a town situated on the bank of river Rapti in Uttar Pradesh. This is one of the most backward and poor districts in India. In Balrampur District 3 talukas & 53 villages are severely affected by the floods. Thousand acres of agricultural land have been inundated and the houses are partly and fully damaged in the two blocks of Utraula and Gaindas Buzurg.
EHA hospital – Prem Sewa Hospital is located in Utraula and has been serving the people of that area since 1966. The community health department of Prem Sewa has been working in the two blocks of Utraula and Gaindas Buzurg, covering 75 villages with a population of 80,000 people.
The Balrampur District authorities and state disaster management department have requested the hospital to provide relief interventions to the affected people.
The following areas for intervention have been identified by the hospital:
- To provide immediate essential items and healthcare needs to the victims of flood.
- To organize health awareness camps in Utarula and Gaindas Buzurg Block.
- To network with government to provide relief interventions.
Activities: - Distribute clean water and small water tanks with chlorine tablets.
- Distribute 200 plastic sheets for 200 families.
- Distribute 100 Mosquito nets to 100 families.
- Organize health camps in 20 villages.
- Distribute basic medicines to sick people.
