Easter Day began at 4:30 a.m. with singing and prayers in the hospital wards. Many patients and relatives gathered to hear the message of hope that “Jesus is risen.” This was followed by a service in the church graveyard, where we remembered that the grave is not the end, but that we have the confidence of salvation and everlasting life because of the reality and the power of the resurrection of Jesus. In the main worship service we celebrated with music, Bible reading, and a special drama performed by the Youth Fellowship. The drama using a court-room analogy, demonstrated that we are not saved by our own goodness or merit, but only by the sacrifice of Jesus through which God looks on Jesus and pardons us. In continuation of our celebration, we gathered as a community to enjoy a fellowship meal after the service. Many hands worked together to serve a delicious meal to 400 people, and we were all blessed by the sense of community that we shared. To round off the day, the evening English service continued in the spirit of hope and celebration through music, prayer, and readings from Scripture. In the evening’s message, we were reminded that in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, God brings about transformation in hearts and lives. With thankful and hopeful hearts we celebrated Easter as a community. Dr. Mathew George, Duncan Hospital Makunda Hospital starts a New Hospital at Tripura

EHA has 20 hospitals and the administrators from these hospitals are encouraged to try and outperform each other. The best Administrator of the quarter receives a small monetary benefit but a lot of recognition! It is a form of sport. And now we are seeing some very quick and competent Quarterly reporting! The award is based on the critical quarterly report which each Hospital sends to the EHA Central Office in New Delhi. The Quarterly Report contains Patient and Procedure numbers, Income & Expenditure of the hospital along with Reports from the Senior Officers in charge of Administration, Medical services, Nursing and Community Health. Until recently, the Central Office analyzed the information using ratios and returned these to the Units, but now the Units are trying to both compile and analyze their own information. In the Second Quarter, of the current financial year, Mr. Jonathan Sushil of Makunda Hospital in Assam won the first prize. He had completed all the ratios as well as being the first to report. In the third Quarter, Mr. Daniel Dey of Madhipura was the clear winner. He had the complete reporting package e-mailed to Central Office, along with insightful analysis of the Hospital performance before most of the other administrators had started to think about it! We acknowledge their commitment and dedication. The infrastructure and facilities for the camp was provided by the CMO of the Civil Hospital. The Lions Club looked after the publicity, logistics and transport of patients to the camp. The members of the Lions club worked together with the eye team and helped them in every way. The team operated 50 patients each day. In four days the team could do 181 surgeries with the help of the operating Loupe. They could restore the sight of many of the poor patients who came for the camp. Sadna Suman is one such patient whose sight was restored after the surgery. Six months back she became bilaterally blind and lost vision in both the eyes. As a result her eldest daughter, who was just 16 years old, had to do all the house-hold work, apart from looking after her three younger siblings. Coming from a poor background, Sadna had given up all hope of ever seeing the light again. They could not afford the expensive treatment at a city hospital. Sadna came to the camp along with her husband to see what could be done to her eyes. After being screened by the doctor, she was posted for surgery on January 30. The IOL (intraocular lens) was inserted under Loupe, and she was discharged on the 31st with the sight restored in one of her eyes! Sadna walked back home a happy woman.
