Page 1 of 12 January 30, 2006 More than four months after the earthquake, with winter well set in, EHA is still there providing medical help and relief to thousands of earthquake affected people, shivering in the onslaught of snow and unrelenting rain. Through EHA's medical camps and mobile clinics, hundreds of people in remote areas in the valleys and mountainsides have had access to emergency medicines, vaccinations, nutritional supplements and hygiene kits. Braving extreme cold climatic conditions and heavy snowfall the EHA team consisting of Siju, Trinath, Koshy, Stanley, George and others continued to serve the people of Kashmir throughout the winter. EHA Response Over the past four months, 1500 pregnant and lactating mothers were provided vitamin and nutritional supplements in the villages of Salamabad, Namla, Jullah, Dachin-Salamabad, Saran, Bagna, Chulaan, Kalsa Mule, Kalsa Ghati, Kalsa Zamoor Pattan & Gulmarg in J & K. 60% of the target population was immunized. EHA also distributed nutritional supplements and hygiene kits to the affected families. 1000 hygiene kits were distributed to needy families and 1000 families were provided with nutrition supplements. A Water and sanitation study was conducted by the team. The implementation is planned for April, when the winter gets over. |
Life was a continuous struggle for Sushila. Living in poverty, not knowing where her next meal would be coming from, Sushila faced a bleak future. Sushila lives in a village in Balrampur District of rural Uttar Pradesh. Seeing Sushila’s plight, the village Self Help Group (started by Prem Sewa Community Health and Development Project) invited Sushila to become a member. |
