VOLUNTEERING WITH EHA
  • Are you looking for an opportunity to serve?

  • Do you want to use your professional skills?

  • Do you want to learn and grow in your professional skills and in your faith in Christ?

  • Do you want to experience living and working in the two-thirds world?

  • Do you want to see what God is doing in India?

Did you answer yes to two or more of these? - Then read on – you may be just the sort of person we are looking for.

EHA’s International Volunteers Program places volunteers from around the world in EHA hospitals and Community Development Projects in India.

We place 3 types of Volunteers:

Mini Term Professionals General Volunteers International Staff
If you are a specialist in your field and are willing to teach, EHA may be able to use your help. We regularly place skilled professionals in our units for mini terms (2-4 weeks) to help improve the skills of our staff.

Do you have between 3 and 9 months to spare? Do you want to make a difference in your life and the lives of others with that time? If so, being an EHA General Volunteer may be what you are looking for. We place 2 categories of General Volunteers:

Professionals: Medical, Paramedical, Education and Administrative.

Non – professionals: anyone with a heart to serve can be used. Just let us know what you can do and we will try and find a place to use those skills.

Volunteers who wish to serve for a longer term (between 1 and 5 years) can be placed as International Staff. As staff you will live and work alongside EHA national staff, contributing your skills to enable EHA to fulfil our vision of being a “Fellowship for Transformation through Caring”.

FAQ's

Does EHA pay a salary or expenses?
The short answer is No – EHA does not pay salaries to foreign staff and volunteers. All volunteers are encouraged to raise the necessary finances in their home country from friends, family, churches and personal savings. Elective students should check into the possibility of grants from foundations (you can find these out from your medical school)

EHA does on occasion pay in India travel for Mini Term Professionals depending on the need. Please let us know if this is the case. International Staff who live in EHA hospitals will be provided with free staff accommodation and will be reimbursed approved work related expenditure.

What about visas?
International Staff who are employed by EHA will be assisted in applying for a suitable visa prior to their arrival? All other volunteers apply for Tourist Visas, as this is the most suitable visa.

What will happen when I arrive in India?
All volunteers will be met at the airport and provided with an orientation program.

Longer-term volunteers (in excess of 6 months) are encouraged to participate in a Hindi language program for at least a month before starting their placement. (Many of our staff speak only Hindi and almost all our patients speak nothing but Hindi).

International Staff participate in a compulsory 3-month Hindi program before commencing their placement with EHA.
