Chhathiya Devi is a 60 year old widowed woman whose husband died of tuberculosis 8 years ago. She has two sons and two daughters who are married. She lives with her sons who somehow managed to support their families as daily wage earners. With no land of their own or even a ration card to access government schemes, they were highly vulnerable and stricken by poverty.
The nationwide lockdown pushed this family to the brink of starvation. They were forced to beg for food from the villagers to feed their children. What a relief it was when the Nae Roshni project stepped in to distribute food rations to this family and several others like them. The project is also working to help this family get a ration card and a widow’s pension.
