Third Lamp Lighting and Capping Ceremony at Herbertpur Christian Hospital, Herbertpur

The 3rd Lamp Lighting and Capping Ceremony of the 3rd batch of General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) students was held on the January 22, 2016 at the School of Nursing (SON), Herbertpur Christian Hospital. Mrs. Hansi Negi, Registrar, Uttarakhand Nurses & Midwives Council was the Chief Guest to grace the occasion.

The ceremony commenced at 4.30 pm with the nurses marching into the hall followed by the prayer dance by the second year GNM students. Along with the chief guest, the dignitaries present were S. Ghosh, Principal, SON; Dr. Daniel Rajkumar, Managing Director; Dr. Viju John, Medical Director; Dr. Mathew Samuel, Deputy Medical Director; Mr. Thomas Kurian, Administrator; Mrs. Bharati Mohapatra, Acting Nursing Superintendent; HCH. In the welcome speech, Mr. B. John Rufus, Tutor, introduced the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests. The students were capped by Mrs. Bharati Mahapotra, and Mrs Mani Subba followed by lamp lighting. 30 students took the Nightingale oath to dedicate themselves to the nursing profession.

The Principal presented the brief report of the nursing school. Mrs. Hansi Negi, in her address, focused on the dedication, commitment and passion required to become a successful nurse. She also focused on the teacher’s role in guiding and mentoring students and congratulated all the students for their decision to become nurses. Dr. Daniel stressed that teachers should continue to strive in producing quality students. Student representatives also shared their experiences as student nurses.

The Chief Guest presented trophies and certificates to the top 3 meritorious students of each class. Awards for the best in co-curricular and extracurricular activities were also presented by Dr. Mathew Samuel. Ms. Geeta Verma, 3rd year student was awarded “Best Clinical Nurse”, and Ms. Preety Panwar, 3rd year student was awarded “Student of the Year” for 2015. The program ended with the closing prayer by Mr. Thomas Kurian, followed by students marching out to the recessional song, “Lord the Light of Your Love is shining”...
